transmission failure in 2001 s80 t6 S80

So, i have a 2001 t6 with 70k miles.
just the other day, the check engine light came on, and the message screen said "service transmission".

the car is out of warranty, but will I have any luck from the dealer in terms of getting some good faith repair? i dont want to pay a $5000 bill for a new tranny that will break in a year.

the car drives fine right now, what are the chances that it will get worse as time goes?
