compressor blowoff valve?

YES! IF you add too much 134a, the pressure will be too much and it will blow out of the back of your AC compressor. That's what's bad about just adding 134a by the can w/o knowing what's already in there (guessing that you need it). What's left now? Who knows. Probably not much 134a now.

The system only holds 1.63 lbs of 134a and the correct way to re-charge that system is to use an AC machine which recovers the stuff, then it's weighed. By doing that, the tech knows how much 134a was in the system. One then adds the proper amount.
