Key stuck in ignition S70 1998

I found the problem & the remedy. It is simpler, and cheaper than expected.
The large button on the auto shift lever to keep the vehicle from being accidentally shifted into reverse or park was not fully opening. This kept the key from being extracted. The ignition switch itself was not the problem. Any device like another key, knife point or tool is enough to nudge the reluctant button.
I don't know what caused the button to stick. Nothing simple and understandable like a spilled drink, etc.
How common is this?
