Volvo overdrive stuck on V70-XC70

1999 XC70

Every third time I start up the wagon and place it in drive the Overdrive arrow lights up and it feels like I am driving in 5th gear. Slow starts from a stop. The light will stay on and it stays in 5th until I turn off the car and restart it then it runs normal. The service center said I must drive it to the shop when it is acting up. Unfortunately everytime it acts up and I drive to the shop the mechanics are not there or it is afterhours.

My warrantee runs out in two months and I need to deliver it to a mechanic so they can put their computer on it before my warrantee runs out.

Any suggestions.
