My car as the ETS failing but it's still running. What should I expect S70 1999

About a year ago my engine warning light flicked on and since my idle has been terribly rough. I took it into the dealership under warranty and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. They did a tune up for some insane amount of money which solved nothing. Fed up I just kept driving the car.

Now fastforward to 4 months ago. I take the car in for it's scheduled service and sure enough.. Lo and behold it's the dreaded ETS problem. But no they won't fix it for free cause it's out of warranty. They want $1,000 on top of the $600 they charged me a year ago for the unscheduled tuneup and other things. I called Volvo NA but basically they said they couldn't do a thing. This is for a guy that's done nothing but drive volvo's since he was 16 (albiet they were used ones until I got a career).

What a load of crap. I'm so pissed. So it's been going on for about a year now. How long before the ETS completely fails requiring a tow truck?

I'm either going to just keep driving it as is or trade it in at a local dealership for an Audi A6 4.2 that I have had my eye on. I'm so pissed with Volvo and ready to never own another after doing nothing but drive them since 16. What a stab in the back.

Jim - on my 5th and possibly last Volvo
