Losing oil 850 1996

You're right, the oil has to be going somewhere. If it's not leaking from some seal, then it is leaking into your cylinders and burning. At 1 quart every 1,000 miles, there will not be any smoke, but the inside of the exhaust pipe will be black with soot. Get a compression test first. The problem could be simple, like a seal failure in the valve cover, or complex, like no rings.
