Keyless suddenly stopped working 850 1997

My keyless entry has stopped working and I have tried turing the ignition on and off 5 times and on the 5th time, pressed the remote buttons. No response. Am I following the correct procedure, or is there a different procedure for my model of car (1997 850 GLT)?
