850 connect to ipod 850

I have a 94 850 with the stock radio, but no cd changer. I also have an ipod and i'm wondering if there is a way to use the built-in connector for the cd changer to connect a mini stereo cable for my ipod. The issues are wiring and can I get the head unit to be "on" in the cd mode to recieve the input from the ipod. I've tried the fm transmitters, but they don't work nearly as well as the awai unit I put in my 740 that has a mini line in.

Any input appreciated.
