Breathing life back into my starter 850

I have not taken an 850 starter apart, but if the wonkiness is electrical,The thing you would reverse is probably a copper washer-like item and burnt on the side that contacts two copper posts. Burnt areas on the posts should be filed/sanded clean.

The solenoid pushes the washer against the posts to allow high current to flow to your starter. After a time, the copper parts get burnt by this high current.
