Am I nuts???? 850 1993

You should compare the expenses to what a new car would cost you. A new V70 would be about 500 a month lease, or a car payment with a chunk down. Paying that every month, plus depreciation, too, for buying it, is a pile of money.

A lease at 500/mo, plus about 3000 at signing, tax, license, etc. for 3 years is what, 18000 in lease payments plus 3000 and etc stuff, so like 22000 and you're left with nothing. A 3 year old V70 in good condition is worth retail about 25,000 from about 38,800, which means the dealer bought it back from you for about 20,000. Still, you lose about 19,000 over 3 years.

I'm just ball parking these numbers, but you can see that a new car is expensive. Whether you can afford it or not, its a chunk of money you could do other things with. That said, you need a reliable car. If the 850 keeps stranding you everywhere, I'd say bail out and get a newer 95-96 850. If it still gets you home and you really like, then ride it out. A RMS leak is not likely to let go completely and leave you stranded, but you need to monitor oil every day!! A long trip can really put out the oil - check your tailend for oil droplets too.

I love new cars as much as anyone, but I also like the freedom of no car payments and the title that says no lien on record.
