Anyone had water in spare tire compartment? S80 2000

Today I discovered about 2" of water in the spare tire compartment. No evidence of rust on spare, or other signs this has been on-going for a long period of time. Trunk floor and carpet were dry, so I suspect this water entered from the underside of the vehicle, while driving in weekend rain. Maybe not? Plug in bottom of spare tire compartment was securely in place, and doesn't leak, because I had to remove it to drain the water.
