Car not starting S70 1999

It happens very sporatically..but when I turn on my key the car sounds like it wants to start but then just cuts out. I thought maybe it was my fuel pump, but when I have turned the key over just a touch I can hear that turning on. If I turn the key over and off just briefly a few times and then turn it and give it a little bit of gas it starts right up. Anyone have any ideas as to what I might need to check out next? Thanks!
