steering noise 850 1997

My '97 850 makes a creaking/rubbing sound that is steering related. It happens only when I make a tight turn a slow speed, for example when turning into my driveway or pulling into a parking spot. It definitely happens with left turns - not sure about right turns. Steering fluid is at proper level, have not had any loss of fluid.
Can anyone offer a diagnosis? Could this lead to more serious problems if I don't fix it right away?

-Thanks-
