Don't trust the seller, or the dealer to provide you will all the information. I bought a Volvo several years ago from a dealer that claimed to have a '150 point inspection' on all it's used Volvos. I short trip to an independent Volvo mechanic turned up a laundry list of common problems that helped me negotiate the price down ~20%.

Big things to check are the rear main seal (look for oil leaks where the engine meets the transaxle) and the AC (they can cost you big). Also pull the flame trap and check for clogs (see Bay 13 for instructions).
