Info: Replaced air pump / Question on code clear 98 S-70 turbo

~~I replaced the air pump. Chk engine light is still on. Do I have to get it cleared?

~~~I bought a airpump off E-Bay for $120.00 US / It was pulled from a BMW.
It is in great shape.. no signs of water in it.. runs great. The connector was
on the housing. The volvo connector is on a wire run that is wired into the cap.
The cap is removeable and I just transfered the old Volvo cap to the BMW pump.
They are exactly the same pump with different options. The intake to the BMW pump
had a cap with a filter. the hose connection didnt match. The airfilter/cap is removeable and with some work the stock hose will hook right up.
I would advise just pulling the battery and battery tray to do this job. I started out going from under the car but found that it was just a lot easier to
simply pull the battery stuff out of the way and go in from the top.
If your air pump is fritzed I would do a search on E-Bay and find one from
a BMW or Mercedes or Volvo.. whatever.. as long as there is a picture and it looks
the same physically you can make it work.
On drilling drain holes... dont drill. use a file and just file a hole in the
housing.. there is no room for error and if you use a drill it will be real easy
to hit the impeller(s).. there are two in the housing so file the hole in the
center of the pump at the bottom to give drainage to both. The impellers are
very thin and have a close clearance in the housing. If you hit them with the drill
as you drill through the housing you stand a good chance of bending them.. there isnt enough room in there for a bent one to turn.
hope this helps
