Gage Inconsistancies, 99XC

I have a 99XC that has a few gage incinsistancies. We learned the hard way that the gas gage reads two gallons when empty. The dealer claims they could likely hook up to it (with their computer) and adjust it a little, sound reasonable?
Also the outside air temperature gage reads about seven degrees high. They claim this too should be somewhat adjustable, I'm wondering if this would affect performance/milage. The ECU uses incoming air temp as a perameter for
the fuel mixture, I'm quite sure. Should I just replace the temp sensor (if I can ever find it, I've tried) and pull the sending unit from the gas tank to "adjust" the float or take it to the dealer and trust they know what they are doing and won't rip me off with poor results?

Thanks,
Philip (99XC,91-740SE)
