Thanks guys! I have the ratchet "cup" type that fits Purolator filters and a three jaw type (also fits a ratchet) that tightens on the filter as you apply torque to loosen it. As I switched to Mann filters that are smooth, the cup type doesn't work at all and the three jaw type works but it usually takes a half dozen tries and a lot of swearing before it will grip the smooth sides. I put them on hand tight but they some how manage to tighten themselves further. Figured there had to be somethin' better.
