Two mysterious wires hanging down by radiator. What for? 850

I have a US model 1997 850 GLT wagon. I took the front bumper off to install a pair of foglights, and when I did I noticed a pair of leads hanging down in front of the radiator. The were obviously for hooking up some kind of accessory, like the foglight leads out on the outer fender wells. I connected up the latter and was in business. I re-installed the bumper and thought about those two leads hanging there below the radiator with their female connectors on the ends, wondering what Volvo had prewired for them. I thought maybe spotlights for that segment of society that still shoots its deer at night, but the wires didn't seem heavy enough to carry all the amperage necessary. It's been a while since I removed the bumper and maybe I'm wrong on that point, but it was a thought.

Additionally, this car has just about every accessory you can install on it except self leveling shocks and a footrail bar for vertically challenged people who can't reach the top to wash it (yes, Volvo actually did make such an accessory). There is one empty switch space left on the dash, on the left side closest to the steering column. Was there a connection between that unused switch space and those two mysterious leads? If not, what was it (switch space) used for?

Suggestions on the above two matters appreciated. Dick
