Doing your own thing

Too many people ignore the dealer because they get charged too much. I would like to think that it is much more satisfying to repair your own car, than buying a brand new part and having someone else do it.
My never to be seen again mechanic broke the little switch under the emergency brake, so the light wouldn't turn off. I found the spring and little plastic plunger next to the seat, glued it back together with GOOP, and it works again. Cost? 15 minutes to figure out what the problem was, 5 minutes waiting for the glue to set. Pay back? priceless!
