Can someone comment on why, after much inspection and detail in this area of the auto, that this is still a huge area of question and worry?

I went to clean and inspect the throttle body and flame trap, (after about 15K, the rear main seal and many other PCV components were done then). All were crusted with oil and crud and well on the way to another clog and main seal. Not good. I am trying to keep up on this. My question is why are the hoses connected to the flame trap housing so fragile? Why does the larger hose slip & has no clamp? It may be held by friction when new, but oil 'vapors' move through, the flame trap housing has to handled for maintainence (very frequently). Is it suppoased to be LOOSE? I have to replace the vac elbow on the other side of the block. What should I do? this has me very nervous since I've done 2 main seals since '01 (1st one was botched & I had to pay again ooow). Does evryone else have techs that keep up with this, do it yourselves?? Do people leave flame traps out of 'na' engines?
