Shiftlock override 850 1994

Hi all,

The past couple weeks I have foudn that often when I get back in and re-start the car after being parked that I can't shift out of park unless I press in the shiftlock over-ride button. I have never had to do this before and I worry that it's not a good sign. What exactly does that button do 9I thought it was something to do with towing) and why am I suddenly needing to press it?

This is when parked on level ground and at first I thought maybe I'd moved the steering wheel or something but it's happened too many times now to be a freak occurrance.

I did have the PNP switch replaced several months ago and car has driven great since.

Thanks for any help or advice!
