850 Service Light 850 1994

I own a 1994 850. Recently, the service light comes on. I wish to learn to diagnose my own car but have had hard luck finding the tool. I found that there are OBD2 Scanners on the market from vendors like IPD. But they state it is for year 96 and newer car.

So what should I be looking for to diagnose my 94 850? Is there a computer on the car or is the light just connected to some sensors? Where can I find instructions on diagnosing cause of service light.
