Oil filter puzzle V70-XC70

Hi, all,

I feel great now. In past two hours, I have changed the oil, done the tranny flush (both mobil 1 synthetic), and bled the brake (super blue). But one thing that really puzzles me is that my 99 v70 uses the same oil filter as the one on my 850 (I have to return a box of the cartridge filters to Nick at FCP Groton). Can anyone tell me why? Thank you.
