Direction to use in removing plastic oil cartridge housing? S70 2000

This is a semi-dumb question, but since I don't have a Volvo shop Manual for my 2000 S70 and the fact that the IPD oil filter wrench for the plastic oil filter housing isn't working in removing the housing. Is presently leaving me with the question, as to what the actual direction to turn the filter is (right or left)in order to remove it and replace the cartridge. I'm turning it left, but the IPD filter housing wrench keeps spinning off it. I'm guessing the ribbing is to worn for the wrench to take grab and spin it off, but I wanted to be sure it wasn't something as stupid, as turning it the wrong direction.

Thanks in advance.....
