happened to me V70-XC70

at 26K.

3 tires are OEM Michelin, 4th tire is Lemans:

http://www.mastercare-usa.com/tires/catalog/lemans-touring.jsp

At Firestonre dealer for very low price (around $45 each).

Then the OEM wears out at 40K (slippery when wet etc.), so the remaining 3 were replaced with lemans as well: so now 1 tire at 30K and 3 tires at 10K old.
Problem is when the old tire is at thr front after a tire rotation, car pulls slightly to one side (not much but noticeable).
However, when the old tire is in the rear no problem car drives straight.

From the tire experts, if the DIFFERENCE (please note that it is the DIFF not the absolute wear) in treadwear is less than 20% then acceptable. If you have a regular FWD not an issue.

Uneven treads for an AWD is not a good idea (accelerated wear on the AWD system).
