Rear clunk - Nivomats or not? 850 1996

Hello all; it's been a long time. I have the 'clunk' coming from the back. Was going to go ahead & order shock mounts. Several questions:
1.) I have a wagon - what do I do, pull the carpeting & stuff & access the area from the inside of the hatch?
2.) What's a Nivomat type shock, and how will I know for certain if that's what I have?
3.) Is this job a PITA (pain in . ..) , or fairly easy?
