Buy a C70 Conv? C70 2000

Unlike Norm, I love convertables, and I think the C70 was a gorgeous example. But, I agree with him on two points:

1. The C70 did suffer from cowl shake, a bit disappointing for an expensive car. The engineers goofed and did not stiffen the body enough. I do not know if any after-market suppliers made a braces and struts to stiffen the body. The C70 did not sell in large numbers, so there may not be many after-market parts. That said, if you want an elegant and comfortable highway cruiser, the C70 will suit your needs in style.

2. The folding roof is a mechanical and electrical ballet of incredible complexity. The latches unlock, the windows drop a few cm, the struts lift and fold. Consider what it will cost to repair this collection of struts and motors. Do you have a BIG budget? The 3 series BMWs treated owners to a similar nightmare. The early E36 with a hand-operated roof were fine. The later ones with electrical roofs were an utter nightmare. If the struts were even the slightest bit bent, motors would burn out, and no one could bend the supports back into the right shape. New roofs and motors cost thousands, and they would go out of alignment promptly, burning out the motors all over again.
