Your dealer's answer is pretty accurate. Problem is you screw up the knob if you remove it. Just part of the design. But I found out on e_Bay, a guy out of Alberta that was selling a pretty decent leather boot and matching knob (European-made) for about $35 CDN. Might be worth a look as the Volvo or Momo options are not cheap.
