Temporary clutch hydraulic pressure failure S70

Yesterday, coming into a busy intersection the clutch on my 1998 S70 T5 just sat on the floor when I was downshifting. I managed to coast to the shoulder and by the time I had stopped it was working again. Has anyone had this experience or can anyone explain why this happened? Bad brake fluid? Also, is it equally likely that my brakes could have failed?
