97 keyless entry and alarm 850

I'm doing several repairs this weekend to my wifes car as we're going on vacation for a week and it will give me time for all the ordered parts to arrive.

The last thing on my list is her constant complaints about her keyless entry, never seems to work right, and recently both buttons are locking the car and neither will unlock it. She wants it replaced. Anyone have information/experience with replacing the stock system with an aftermarket?
