new owner help 850

Hi i recently purchased a 95 850 and i have looked at alot of them and the black rubber roof strips on most of them are not there anymore, just the aluminum with glue residue left. Now my question is i finally settled on one with the roof strips in excellent shape. I want to know if you guys can give me any tips to keeping them in great shape is their secrets to this because over half i looked at, the strips were in poor shape. any help would be great.
