850 Starter removal 850 1996

Yes, tight quarters !!

It is an easy job complicated by no room to work - common with almost any work on the 850's.

I replaced my 850's starter a few years ago. As I recall, you will need to remove the radiator fan shroud; turbo hose (if turbo); the battery ( maybe not required; but trust me it will make the job easier); the hose to the throttle body.

There are 2 primary bolts holding the starter to the block. In addition, there is another bolt at the rear of the starter retaining the starter bracket to the block ( some people miss this one and cannot figure out why the starter will not come out). The starter will come out from the top.

Tool wise; you will need a 3/8" socket set and 3/8" Universal Socket extension The universal extensionis a must to access the 2 primary bolts retaining the starter !!

Really a simple job with some time, patience, and the 3/8" Universal socket extension ( hint, hint !)
