What is it next to charcoal canister? 850 1993

Just forward of the charcoal canister is a black canister about 3 inches in diameter, rounded on one end and flat on the other with what looks like a single vacuun line attached.

Any one know what it is and what it does? My son put car in ditch and the main damage is to the front fog light and this canister. Car seems to run fine, MPG still 28-30, so I'm guessing some part of pollution controll system? Should I replace or just plug line that was connected?
