97 850 Odometer 850

Yeah its common on the newer ones. There's a plastic gear in there that drives the odometer and trip meter and it commonly fails. The instrument panel is a royal PITA to remove. Have to pop the dash cover up.
You can order a new gear from here:
http://www.odometergears.com/subpages/volvo.html . If you want to send it out to get repaired it will cost you about $200. To buy the gear and install it yourself will run you about $30. I'll email you the guide for removing the instrument cluster. Good luck.
