Possibly bad steering rack? Suggestions......... S70

My independant Volvo mechanic told me that i need to replace the Steering rack on my 98 S70 with 135K.

The symptom i have is my car steering (NOT the brake pedal) vibrates with either i turn and brake or just straight braking, sometime i feel the steering shake slightly when i drive.

I have new tires, my front pads and rotors are perfect, the balancing has been done, and I have replaced the struts and shocks.

Any suggestions that the problems i am having have to do with a worn out steering rack?

Also, what can i possibly damage if I keep driving on a work out steering rack.
