strange problem 850 1995

My 1995 Volvo 850 T5-R has been having a strange issue: when I turn on the car, the lights operate normally, but only briefly; the headlights will stay on, but the light in the shifter goes out, and the lighting in the dash (for the odometer) goes out, and then stays off. (A little disconcerting at night.) Could this be a fuse, or where should I begin looking?
