Transmission Fault 850 1996

Hi all, I just wanted some thoughts on this phenomenon...
I hadn't driven my '96 850 in about a week and a half (can walk to work), but I needed to run some errands. The car drives fine, but as I'm manuvering up to a gas pump, having quickly (although not while moving!) thrown the transmission from reverse to drive, the flashing arrow that indicates a transmission fault comes on. Turn off the car, pump gas, turn the car back on, and the light is still flashing. I cautiously pull out of the station, but the car runs absolutely fine. My car has had a way of showing faults that mean nothing (meaning the dealer says something to the effect of "whatever it was, the code doesn't indicate anything") so I just chalked it up to another case of fake faults. Sure enough, I run another errand with the car in the parking lot for 2 hours, come back out, and the flashing arrow is gone. What could cause this, and have you had similar experiences? Should I care that the light has gone out, or consider the car fine? It's gotten to the point where the lights are just annoying rather than worrisome. Thanks - Justin
