By all means, shift to synthetic. The six quarts of oil will cost you about $30 and a good filter less than $5, along with a new crush ring. But once your hydraulic lifters start to make noise in the am, they will always make noise. Just be kind to the engine and let it "warm up" for about 60 seconds before you rush off to work.
