What exactly is part called? (1/2 axle to replace CV Boot) 850 1997

No, a control arm is not the same as a 1/2 axle.

The term 1/2 axle is a little misleading. You need an axle assembly for the right (passenger) side. The axle assemblies are sold for the right and left side separately, so are sometimes refered to as 1/2 axles. I wouldn't recommend replacing the boot if you plan on keeping the car. This should only be considered a short term fix. I did replace the boot on my son's Nissan once, but ended up replacing the axle about one year later. The CV joint will get contaminated when the boot breaks, and will generally fail in a relatively short time even after the boot is replaced. Better in my opinion to just spend the money once and replace the axle assembly. FCP Groton does list the axle assemblies. I have had excellent experience with Swedish Engineering (one of the boards advertisers).
