ok i hear u i really do...and i dont fit volvo genuine leads or ATF 9have you SEEN the price of that!) but when it comes to coolant i do go genuine. the logic is simple, their is no standard for it so you cant assure yourself the product you buy IS the same (well not without the sort of chemistry lab most of us dont have access too!). Now if you say you change your coolant every 2 years - the recomended - and you keep the car 10 years that 5 changes...

now last time i did it i think the damage was about £20 from volvo (say $40) * 5 changes = $200 thats CHEAP insurance over the life of a vehicle ESPECIALLY if you have seen the damage wrought by sub-standard non volvo coolant - we literally took the car to the scrap yard beacuse the only other practical option was a new engine..... and that was on a b230 which shout be less sensitive to coolant...
