You can remove the light bulb. That solves the issue once and for all at zero cost, but it takes a while to get the instrument cluster out. Volvospeed has great instructions for this procedure: http://www.volvospeed.com/Dashremove.htm

While you're doing that, you might as well change all the instrument cluster light bulbs.
