850 engine or head replacement 4 valve w/o turbo. 850 1994

I just bought a 1994 850 4 valave nonturbo very well maintained, with NO head someone attempted head gasket, installed wrong, leaked oil and lost head. Has anyone replaced their engine themselve? Can you pull just engine or have to pull eng /trans as a unit? Any tips greatly appreciated! I have found 3 motors 65k to 81k for $700 -800 from diferent yards (I always ask for VIN to confirm carfax for mileage) appartently VERY cheap from some prices I've seen on the net. Also will a turbo head fit a nonturbo motor? I can get motor less turbo for $300.
