battery drain 850 1996

i have a problem with the battery being drained and naturally i thought it was the alternator so i changed it with another one that was used. i'm still having the same problem. i've disconnected the battery while the car was running and the car would stay on for about 10 minutes and then stall out. i bought a repair manual and according to the book it's saying it could be the voltage regulator and it's telling me that it's inside the alternator which is why i changed it in the 1st place. i guess what i'm asking is do i have to go out and spend $200 on a new alternator or could this be some other problem. i'm thinking it's time to sell.

Sincerly Greg
