Interior LIghts Everlasting... V70-XC70 1999

Chris--dumb suggestion, but I made the mistake myself. Shortly after I bought my car I messed with the overhead switch or hit it accidentally, and the lights stayed on. Finally got smart and looked at the service manual and found which position I wanted the lights to come on when I opened the door and went out when I closed it. Lights still stayed on. Didn't realize they stayed on after you shut the door for a few minutes, time enough for you to find your key or whatever. Once you hit the remote lock though, they should go out if the switch is in the right position. Like I said, been there done that. As an added note, one of my overhead lights went out and I replaced the bulb. Directly thereafter the key warning chime sounded when the door was open, and would not stop after I closed the door. I tore my hair and the Volvo garage assured me it was the sensor in the door gone to hell and it would take $300 to replace it and no they didn't have time to do it then and there. I went home, agonized over that cost, and finally started checking the circuit. The door chime was connected to those overhead lights and also the one in the glove box. Glove box light was out. Checked my fuse for that circuit. Burned. Checked the bulb I had installed overhead. Had pushed it in too far (very easy to do) and had shorted it. Took some time to finger it out of the socket, but when I put a new one back it (more carefully this time), I had no more problems with the door chime sensor. Dick
