Code lights out on my radio/cd system. How to change? 850 1997

Thanks for all the information on this BB. I replaced ALL the bulbs in my 850 radio with bulbs from Maplin - an electrical chain store here in the UK like Radioshack - at a cost of £2.50 rather than £25.00 that the Volvo main dealer wanted for the bulbs.

I was bit confused when I checked the bulbs worked in the car after replacement, the bulbs were a bit dim, so I checked voltage - only about 3.5 volts, but this turned out to be just with the ignition on, when the lights are turned on it's about 9.0 volts from memory, and the bulbs light the radio perfectly in the dark.
