Trip Computer displays 'disc'... V70-XC70 1999

Has anyone else seen this? Intermittently lately, the trip computer in our V70R AWD will turn on all six of the mode indicators and display "disc" on the info line. Changing the current mode (to anything else) restores the natural balance, but the problem can recur minutes later.

It may happen many times in a day, then not again for a week. No warning lights come on, and nothing else odd appears to happen.

Can't find the owner's manual (which is out of character), and I suspect (hope) that this has a simple explanation.... So, any insight appreciated.
