Starter or Solenoid? 850 1997

Sounds like the solenoid to me. I had the same problem on an airplane and I had to spray silicone lubricant on the bendix assembly each time before I started it. The solenoid engaged the starter with the flywheel, but it wouldn't release when the motor started. Seemed to work OK in the summer, but cold weather would cause the problem. I eventually replaced the starter. If you can't buy the solenoid seperately, you may have to buy a new starter, too.
