E-code lenses versus whole lamp units V70-XC70 1998

I believe it is possible to replace the stock US-spec headlight lenses with the Euro-code type. The question is whether or not there is any advantage to replacing the whole headlamp instead. Would one, for instance, be able to install the low watt city light? I do know that one loses the float levels in the swap.
