Bad oil change, or something worse 850

I have an 850 with 150k miles. Went for an oil change last weekend and opted for a sytnthetic "high mileage" lubricant.
Since then, the engine has been idling very roughly (a cylinder seems to be missing), black exhaust with a weird smell has been coming from the tailpipe, and the check engine light has just come on.

Other than this, the car seems to be running fine. I just back from a 100 mile, mostly highway drive with the above-stated maladies and the car performed o.k.

Any idea what this is? Should I get another oil change, or have someone look into engine timing and so on.

I would be grateful for any advice.
