SRS Blues 850

The SRS (airbag) light came on on my '93 850 GLT w/ 289K miles recently. I was offered two approaches to solve this issue. 1) service the contacts in the steering wheel assembly (about $450 USD) or replace the crash sensor (about $1200 USD)

I went with the former and the issue was solved (SRS light not on). Three months later, the SRS light comes on and the crash sensor is indicated as the culprit.

My question: Is this something I can service myself? Where is the sensor located? Do you know where I can get instructions on this repair? How about the hardware?

Thanks for your advice!
